If you are alive and have ears, you should listen to Thunderbirds Are Now! who are an amazing detroit based band on frenchkiss records. my personal favorite songs are pink motorcycle helmet, better safe than safari, and last sandwich for sanchez, though anything you find by this band is more than likely going to blow your mind. they base their sound around chaotic synthesizers and frantic vocals of the allen brothers....also if you ever get the chance, they put on the best live show i have ever seen.
Les Savy Fav.. being new to the community, i dont know what any of you listen to or already know about, but if you havent heard these guys, i strongly recommend it...they are the most amazing thing i have ever heard. they are by far my favorite band. they have one of the most original sounds, which i can barely put into words.
some great songs to check out by them would be : reformat, hold on to your genre, dishonest don part II, and disco drive. there are many other great songs by this band, but if you like these, il leave you to find them on your own.
if you want to hear these bands or many other great ones go to www.frenchkissrecords.com

by bright eyes
now i know EVERYBODY knows bright eyes. but on account of the tour right now, i feel some sort of tribute is good.
this song is absolutely amazing. every line, my friends will mercilessly tease me for liking this "scene" band, however i can't help but enjoy the lyrical poetry.
"There's kids playin guns in the street,
and ones pointing his tree branch at me.
So, I put my hands up I say "enough is enough.
If you walk away, I'll walk away."
and then he shot me dead!"
Hey I'm new here, live in Austin, Texas and just recently started listening to Firekills-good local rock band.

My mother's friend wants me to make a list of bands that would be acceptable for a fourth grade girl. Have any ideas?
For me, a nostalgic plunge: Least Complicated,
by the Indigo Girls. Too, too beautiful. Those harmonies. Those words.
Then again, I've been obsessed with most Indigo Girls songs. I usually discriminate against female vocalists, but those women have it.
My current obsession is a band called A Rare Glimpse. My favourites by them are "Scaryfone", "Show You the Feel", and "Dancing Without Thought."
any ben forrest davis song is good. he's the former drummer of sugarcult but his music is more tender [?] and sensitive. it's simple and natural but it's really really nice imo. he's indie right now. please try checking him out. his music is really nice.( interview right off of his myspace accountCollapse )
please try checking out his official site too, it's benforrestdavis.com :)

jiha lee and tim kasher (and some jenny lewis at the end!) singing this beatiful song, albeit long: about 9 minutes or so.
but it's totally worth every second.
kind of folky, but with with three thousand instruments playing in the background (meaning = totally awesome)
"it’s that i recognize your off-white lies,
still, i lie beside you
and that’s what really hurts."
My favorite song at the moment: Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands by Bob Dylan.
I got out my copy of Blonde on Blonde
for the first time in a while today and realized I had forgotten how much I love this song. A twelve minute masterpiece.( lyricsCollapse )
